History
Lancer Service has been providing auto service and repair in downtown
Saint Paul for over thirty years. Originally named Lancer Shell and
located at 11th and Jackson. In the late seventies Lancer quit selling
gas, changed the name to Lancer Garage and moved to l0th and Jackson. In
1988 Lancer Garage moved again to the existing site of O.K. Service at
8th Street between Sibley and Wacouta and changed the name to Lancer
Service Inc. In early 2000 the City of Saint Paul purchased the
property from Lancer Service in order to make way for development of a
new housing project. This required Lancer Service to relocate again one
block east on 8th Street. Our current location at 270 East 8th
Street required completely renovating the existing building into one of
the finest automotive repair facilities in Saint Paul. (Renovation

At Lancer Service our philosophy is to do only what is needed. This includes paying attention to minor details in order to avoid future problems and reduce the overall costs of maintenance. In addition to offering professional automotive service, we are here to educate the motoring consumer as to the needs of their vehicles. We provide you with notes on your repair orders suggesting needed services and maintenance items. These are based on a professional evaluation of your vehicle and the manufactures recommendations. We are always willing to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about needed maintenance and recommend an approach best suited to your particular situation. We feel after thirty years of monitoring the automotive repair business, we have derived the most efficient approach to maintaining your vehicle. We make every effort to service all aspects of your vehicle. This allows us to take responsibility for any unscheduled maintenance through our warranty policy. You may consider it a holistic approach to auto care. We are confident we can please you .
Our Customers (Testimonials)
Our customers are the reason for our success. We have the good fortune of having a base of courteous, knowledgeable, informed customers. We have always stressed the importance of knowing your vehicle by reading the owners manual, listening and feeling for irregularities and then dealing with issues before they become problems. We are rewarded with customers who appreciate our devotion and knowledge in a rapidly changing industry. Having the courtesy to plan ahead and schedule routine maintenance repairs helps our organization immeasurably. Be assured, if you are a regular customer of Lancer Service and an unforeseen problem occurs, we will be there for you. Owners
Jim Thomas has been at the helm of Lancer service since pumping the last drop of gasoline at the original site. Since his grandfather founded an automotive shop known as Battery Service in downtown St Paul in the early 1900's, to overseeing the present operations of Lancer Service, much has changed. "Back then Grandpa sold batteries to replace the hand starter crank. Now we reprogram on-board computers to improve driveability needs." We currently service all models of hybrids, next we may be servicing your hydrogen powered vehicle.
Carl Thomas (Jim's son) and devoted lancer employee for over a decade acquired an interest of Lancer Service and the title Vice President December 2008. We will work side by side, father and son, passing on the baton of wisdom until taking over the helm July 2012. The devotion Carl has for the auto repair industry and Lancer customers is unmatched and the values we have developed over the last thirty years will carry on long into the future with Carl.
