03-06 Saab 9-3 Spring extended warranty

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

broken coil springWe just received the first notification that Saab will be extending the warranty on their 2003-2006 9-3 coil springs to 10 years/120k miles. Saab has had many cars with failed springs that fall out of the standard factory warranty. This has caused consumers to complain creating bad press that, through social media and forums has spread quickly. As a result Saab has not only extended the warranty but is also providing reimbursement if your coil springs have been replaced prior to this special coverage condition.

If your vehicle does have a cracked/broken coil spring you may notice that it is sitting .4-2″ lower. You may also notice a clunk/squeak from the front when hitting bumps or road irregularities. Saab is recommending that you should not take your vehicle to the dealership for service unless you believe that it is exhibiting one of the above conditions. They also have stated that if your vehicle is inspected and does not have broken springs there will be an “inspection fee”.

If you are concerned or would like to have your vehicle inspected please feel free to contact  us and we will provide you with additional information. Additionally we are inspecting applicable vehicles at no charge and making proper, unbiased recommendations. If you have already had your springs replaced and it was not covered under warranty we can supply you with the proper form to start the reimbursement process. The Reimbursement form deadline is January 31, 2011.

*Wishing you miles of carefree driving*

GM Recalls 1.3 Million Cobalts and G5′s

General Motors Co. said it is voluntarily recalling 1.3 million compact cars, including the company’s popular Chevrolet Cobalt model, because the cars’ power steering could fail.

The recall affects the 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalts, 2007-2010 Pontiac G5s, 2005-2006 Pontiac Pursuits sold in Canada and the 2005-2006 Pontiac G4 sold in Mexico. The auto maker told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the recall Monday after finishing an investigation that began last year.

The condition takes time to develop and tends to occur in models that are out of warranty, said GM Vice President of Quality Jamie Hresko.

“While greater steering effort under 15 mph may be required, these vehicles are safe to drive because the customer can still steer the vehicle,” Mr. Hresko said. “When the condition occurs, both a chime will sound and a ‘Power Steering’ message will be displayed.”

The NHTSA had opened an investigation Jan. 27 into about 905,000 Cobalt models in the U.S. after it received more than 1,100 complaints of a lost of power steering assist, 14 crashes and one injury.

GM’s announcement is the latest safety-related callback of cars, with Toyota Motor Corp. recently recalling some 8 million autos globally because of problems including sticky accelerator pedals that cause sudden, unintended acceleration.

If you feel that your vehicle may be affected please contact us with your VIN number and we will see if it is involved. If your vehicle is involved we can help setup an appointment with your local dealer.

Thanks,
