We just received the first notification that Saab will be extending the warranty on their 2003-2006 9-3 coil springs to 10 years/120k miles. Saab has had many cars with failed springs that fall out of the standard factory warranty. This has caused consumers to complain creating bad press that, through social media and forums has spread quickly. As a result Saab has not only extended the warranty but is also providing reimbursement if your coil springs have been replaced prior to this special coverage condition.
If your vehicle does have a cracked/broken coil spring you may notice that it is sitting .4-2″ lower. You may also notice a clunk/squeak from the front when hitting bumps or road irregularities. Saab is recommending that you should not take your vehicle to the dealership for service unless you believe that it is exhibiting one of the above conditions. They also have stated that if your vehicle is inspected and does not have broken springs there will be an “inspection fee”.
If you are concerned or would like to have your vehicle inspected please feel free to contact us and we will provide you with additional information. Additionally we are inspecting applicable vehicles at no charge and making proper, unbiased recommendations. If you have already had your springs replaced and it was not covered under warranty we can supply you with the proper form to start the reimbursement process. The Reimbursement form deadline is January 31, 2011.
*Wishing you miles of carefree driving*

I called Saab today since my front coil spring broke and ripped into my front tire. They said that based on my vin number my 2004 Saab with 77,000 miles is not covered by this warranty. Is this correct?
Dave, your vehicle should be covered by this warranty extension (as should the tire). The only reason that it should be declined is if the vehicle has a marked title (previous accident). The campaign #15917 is what you should be referencing. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions, good luck!! CT
This warranty extension is real! I gave my Saab dealer the warranty referrence number 15917 provided by Carl and they were happy to replace the blown coil spring in my 2004 Saab 9-3 free of charge. Thanks so much for your help!
Glad to hear that things worked out well for you. We have been contacted by multiple Canadian car owners. It seems that dealers are “having trouble” finding the information until the ref# was used.
I have my 2006 9-3 serviced by Armando’s of Canfield, OH. I’d heard a knocking in the front passenger area and thought it must just have been stuff in my glove compartment. A few weeks later, I smelt burning rubber from the driver’s side. The tire exploded in epic fashion. When I pulled it off–aha broken spring! Turned out both were broken. Armando’s honors the warranty. Couple day repair, though.
I knew my 2003 Arc 9-3 (75k miles) had a problem (rattling in front left wheelwell, left side lower than right side by an inch), but didn’t know either the cause or the remedy until a Saab dealer advised me. Yesterday they replaced both left and right springs for free. The tires were already shot because of an alignment condition but there there was no visible evidence of the fractured spring other than the lowering. I also got the AUX stereo input kit installed ($45 parts $220 labor!) Total bill for four tires, alignment, and kit was $1150 – ouch – but still worth it because of the free spring repair.
Talked to Kevin and even though I do not live in MN (I’m from TX) he was courteous and helpful regarding an issue with SAAB. It would be a ton easier to not be afraid to go to Auto Mechanics if there were more places like Lancer.
im from toledo, ohio and both of my coil springs broke in my car my 2004 aero 9-3 and everytime i contact someone, they tell me i can’t get it dont for free. what do i do? who do i contact? i’ve been without a car for weeks!
thank you sooooo much for your help. we may be a few states away, but you helped me out alot. thank you.my car is now getting towed and fixed for free (:
Hi, my left front spring broke the other day on an 06 saab 93. Does this extended warranty cover both sides in the front being replaced? Or only the broken side?
TY TY TY..I called Saab today and they said that the coil spring on my 2006 Saab 9-3 Aero where cover for 10 years 120,000 guess they are known to break
Good morning Francis, so far they have always been replacing them in pairs. If they do not it would be worth your time to replace both of them.
I’m from Utah and I have the same problem with the broken spring. My dealer refuses to cover it because this only covers certain states that use salt to deice their roads. (definitely Utah) Utah, however was not on the list. Is this list true or are they just trying to get away with not fixing my car. I’ve never had a problem with this dealer before today.
Nikola,
The list does make sense as many of the non-rust belt states have not seen the issues that we have up here in MN & WI. When an issue (usually a safety issue) is found with a vehicle and enough complaints are made the NHTSA (National highway traffic saftey association) will look into the incedents. They work directly with manufactures to establish the best course of action. That being said Saab in this case will want to cover the fewest amount of cars possible. I am sure that Saab pitched that the only issues that applied in rust belt states and did not take into consideration such locations as Utah. Normally I would recommend that you contact Saab of North America and they could file a special claim report and potentially get your springs covered. Due to the current company instability it might not get you anywhere. You could also contact NHTSA http://www.nhtsa.gov/Contact and see what they recommend for a course of action. Let me know how things go and if you are able to get anything covered. Feel free to shoot over any additional information to carl@lancerservice.com. Good Luck!
I have a 2007 with 58k on it, front right spring broke and the dealers won’t do anything about it, even though they admit there are tons of 2007′s breaking as well, so clearly they didn’t fix the issue for 07. Watch out if you have one!
From what I have been hearing lately it sounds as if Saabs warranty department is becoming a challenge to work with. Hereis a recent auto week article that states all new Saabs are being sold as is. http://bit.ly/yGS0Bw Money is going to run short and warranty repairs are becoming more challenging!
I have a Saab 9-3 2.0T 2006 with 34,00 miles. I am in Michigan. My front left spring broke so I called 3 Saab dealers in the Detroit-area. The first dealer said they would do the repair but that I would have to pay because they didn’t expect GM or Saab to pay the warranty claim. The second dealer said I wouldn’t have to pay. However, they only resumed ordering Saab parts the previous day & wouldn’t have the parts for 2 weeks. The third dealer, Trio Motors Saab in Burton, said I wouldn’t have to pay & they had the parts in stock. I made an appt. for the next day. The dealer replaced both front coil springs & mounts within 1 hour and 15 minutes of my arrival. My cost $0. A great experience.
HELLO, hello- just wanted to share- my spouse and i moed to Dallas to get to a “warmer” climate- – one of the biggest things we missed ? that’s right Lancer’s automotive !
every month there we made lists of what we liked about Dallas and what we missed about the twin-cities and Lancers was always on our wish list- so after just
six monthes in Dallas- we moved back to beautiful St Paul and Lancers !
they are the greatest — The news isn’t always the greatest- but they are there to help us make the right decisions for us !
If you want a place that’s ethical and truly caring they’re the ones !
I just shopped for a new used car- – i called these guys a dozen times – talking about every car i was interested in- and they gave me honest answers and the reasons behind them – then they inspected my car before buying it for $95.00 and gave me the full line up of what needed done and the cost – which made me prepared to negotiate with the dealer on those discounts-awesome ! byt the end of February – i will be back on the road in my new used Subaru Forester !

I have a 2006 Saab 2.0 conv. I called Hurd Automall and they said they can’t fix the car without me paying for it. It would 600.00 to fix the spring on this vehicle. I tried to call Saab to get some asst but every number I try is out of service. I live in RI and need any help from you guys that you can give to me.
Thank you
Annie
Good morning Annie,
Unfortunately it would appear that free spring replacement is no longer going to be taking place. Saab of North America is becoming challenging to contact and less dealerships are supporting the extended warranty. My recommendation is to call around to multiple dealerships and see if anyone will support it. Please call me at 651-224-0267 with any additional questions.
Good luck,
Carl T.
